Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A woman tragically lost her life and her son was seriously injured in a road accident on the Kona Expressway on Thursday. The deceased, Manovara Begum, a resident of Betaitola Sheikhpara, was returning home with her son when the accident occurred.
The mother-son duo was travelling on a two-wheeler when a speeding truck reportedly hit them from behind. The sudden impact caused Manovara Begum to fall off the motorcycle onto the road, leading to fatal injuries. Her son, who was riding the bike, also sustained serious injuries in the crash.
Local passersby rushed to the spot after hearing the crash and immediately called for help. Police and emergency responders arrived quickly and took control of the situation. The injured son was rushed to a nearby government hospital for treatment.
Police sources confirmed that the woman was declared dead on the spot. They also confirmed that the truck driver fled the scene after the collision. An FIR has been lodged and efforts are on to trace the vehicle using CCTV footage from the area.
The accident has reignited concerns over reckless driving and speeding on the Kona Expressway, which has seen multiple fatal accidents in recent months. Residents are demanding increased surveillance and stricter speed monitoring on the busy route.
Authorities have promised to tighten patrolling along accident-prone stretches of the Expressway and are urging commuters to report reckless driving through the traffic control helpline.
